MOODY MONDAY – or how to make a successful start to the week.

Monday, 8.15 a.m. - and this week doesn’t ever want to end either? The start of the week is the most hated day of the week for many people. Everything seems to be more exhausting than usual and the tolerance limit for noise, stress and colleagues appears to be especially low on this day. No wonder, as our body is still in "weekend mode" - also known as “weekend jet lag”.

Monday Blues or Sunday Neurosis?

Social media and the faces of our fellow men tell us that Monday is the "most unpretentious" day of the week. In fact, Alpaslan Akay and Peter Martinsson from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden have demonstrated in a study that Monday blues starts on Sunday. They explain this "Sunday neurosis" with the fact that many employees suffer from being permanently available - including weekends - which means they are unable to benefit from any real relaxation.

Ok, so it is Monday.

But who says Monday has to be so terrible? Be rebellious and have a good day despite everything! We'll give you a few tips to help you get started in the week.

  • The right plan.
When your motivation reaches its lowest point on Friday towards the close of the working day, carefully complete your tasks, draw up a clear plan for the coming week, especially for Monday, and tidy up your workplace. This will help to give you a better start into the new week.
  • More time.
Plan more time in the morning - from waking up to getting to work. Putting yourself under pressure only adds to the Monday blues.
  • Be fresh for the start of your working day.
Air the office thoroughly, water the plants and listen to your favourite music. Take a little more time on Monday to arrive at the office.
  • Treat yourself to something.
Make an appointment on Friday for lunch on Monday with your favourite colleagues. Make sure there is something you can look forward to.
  • Good vibes only.
Of course your colleagues' bad mood can be infectious, but you can also infect them with your good mood. A nice compliment or a friendly gesture like bringing them a cup of coffee at their desk, will do. One friendly welcoming email can bring a smile to even the grumpiest colleague on Monday.
