Our best-selling nooi chair is celebrating its anniversary: Even after 10 years, it's nooi time and time again.
A Wiesner-Hager bestseller is celebrating its 10th anniversary - the nooi chair family. Since it was launched on the market in December 2014, around 300,000 nooi chairs have made their way to our customers all over the world. Thanks to a variety of frame types, this model family has succeeded in revitalising large-scale seating environments, cafeterias, canteens, meeting rooms and waiting areas with just a single shell shape. This versatile chair has evolved continuously throughout its 10 years on the market, not least due to its elegantly quilted design upholstery - it's simply nooi time and time again.
From concept to frame linking: as unconventional as it is ingenious.
The linkable chair is at the heart of the nooi family: Thanks to an innovative idea for linking frames quickly, it became the benchmark for spacious interiors and events. Never before has it been so quick and easy to set up and dismantle hall seating: The two adjacent legs are simply stacked over each other, thereby creating valuable space for a comfortable seating arrangement. The result is an aesthetically pleasing and harmonious look as there is no need to double the legs. Dismantling is as uncomplicated as it is quick: nooi can be stacked vertically, allowing safe, tight stacks that require very little space for storage.
We not only had the task of designing a stackable linking chair, the chairs also had to be able to be interlocked without the need for an extra connecting element. All of a sudden we had this small but radical idea of linking the chairs directly to their adjoining legs. What at first sounded crazy soon solved all our problems. Handling the chairs is self-explanatory and straightforward
Wiesner-Hager's Product Development team also honed the nooi linking chair to find the perfect solution. 'The multi-talented nooi was not born perfect; the chair is the result of an in-depth development process. In fact, initial attempts to link several chairs to each other resulted in heavily deformed frame parts. After numerous design and technical refinements, a product emerged featuring a contemporary design and extremely simple handling, combined with technologies from our own production facilities,' explains Thomas Gallauer, Head of Development at Wiesner-Hager, describing the development process.
In 2015, nooi received an honourable mention at the prestigious Red Dot Award for its sophisticated design and linking concept.
One shell - countless variations.
The centrepiece of the chair family is the seat shell. Born from the idea of catering for all major seating areas with a single shell shape and a range of frame variants, nooi is a convincing choice for large-scale seating environments, cafeterias, waiting rooms and transit areas as well as seminar and training spaces. In this way, nooi creates a uniform appearance over an entire office or building architecture. The shell is available in plywood and plastic and with a choice of upholstery. The different colour combinations of the plastic shell allow plenty of creative scope for interior design.
Even 10 years after being launched on the market, this popular chair family is regularly expanded and new versions added. As a result, the models in the series were recently enhanced with a design upholstery featuring diamond-shaped stitching (diamond-shaped design quilting), lending them an elegant appearance that blends in even better with superior hotel settings.
nooi in action: a permanent guest in the hospitality area.
Over the past 10 years, the nooi design has become a true benchmark for stackable and linkable chairs. Prestigious hotel chains in particular have opted for the flexible, easy-to-use chair in their event, meeting and seminar areas in order to save time and money. The first major customer Wiesner-Hager was commissioned to equip with nooi chairs was the Radisson hotel group. This was followed by many other projects for NH, Marriott, Accor and Hilton.
